So here I am. Nifty thrifty me. How did I get here? What am I doing? I keep asking myself the same thing!
Actually, this idea started when I was looking for a chocolate covered caramel recipe because my sister, who usually makes them for Christmas, did not this year. When I told her I should make them myself next year, she snickered at me! Like, what? I am incompetent? I can’t make them? Maybe I’m taking something away from her? Whatever!
She has, in the past been proprietorial about her recipes due to the fact that she owned a gourmet “take out” in Mendocino and lived in fear someone would “steal” her recipes. I thought she had lightened up. My bad.
I started looking up chocolate covered caramels. I found one recipe that really looked good and not beyond my capabilities. The fantastic site is www.mymansbelly.com!. I loved it! What a great concept. One I have been living.
So I started to think. I had been trying to think of a way to use my talents. How could I do something with the minuscule knowledge I have. I’m no chef, artist, writer, or domestic goddess (we all know who you are) However, I do have a knack for taking things I see or want and making and/or tweaking them from whatever I have available and doing so thriftily.
When I saw the website, I was inspired! It is so right! Food (goodies especially) will win you many friends! My husband of 28 years is a contractor and all the subcontractors, homeowners and employees love it when I bring a pie or cookies to the job-site! Not to mention it is a thrifty gift!
What else do I have to offer the world? Well, my husband and I have been remodeling, rebuilding, gardening (for food), crafting, landscaping, and decorating our homes on a tight budget for 25 years. We are on our third home. Only one was even “livable” when we purchased it.
Keep coming back to visit and give me your input! I love sharing ideas, strategies, and recipes!
